Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee and Fatah Movement Central Committee member Azzam al-Ahmad said that the Palestinian authority will cut all ties with Israel in case it annexed parts of the West Bank.

Ahmad told Palestine TV that all forms of political ties with Israel will end in case it carried out its threat of annexing the West Bank -- the security coordination will be over, he added.

The Palestinian official said it is likely that the tension level might push Israel towards reoccupying the West Bank, leading to the collapse of the authority.

Ahmad’s statements were comments on Israel's prime minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu who has pledged to annex parts of the West Bank to Israel in case he gets back to the rule. He pledged not to dismantle a single Jewish settlement and to declare Israeli sovereignty over settlements, a step commended by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The visit of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to Cairo is the beginning of more extensive tours to face the Deal of the Century, said Ahmad, affirming that the Palestinian authority started implementing resolutions of Palestinian National Council and PLO Central Council in response to US and Israeli policies.

Ahmad underpinned that all international and regional groups will be contacted to clarify the facts amid the continuous Israeli and US policies. The procedures won’t be restricted to boycotting and canceling agreements, he pledged.

Further, he saw no need for new meetings and initiatives on reconciliation but what is needed is to implement the already agreed upon ones, especially that of 2017.

Ahmad rejected holding a meeting for Palestinian factions before ending the division, stressing that meetings are now for PLO and not for Hamas and Palestinian Jihad Islamic Movement, at least not before they recognize PLO as the sole representative for Palestinians.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri, for his part, advised Fatah to direct this language and threats to the occupation instead of the resistance. According to Zuhri, the side that does security coordination has no right to lecture in patriotism.

The Palestinian Jihad Islamic Movement also criticized Ahmad’s statements, saying that his project harmed the PLO and its role the most.
