There will be a film screening of the award winning ‘When I Saw You’ by Palestinian film maker Annemarie Jacir.

The story is set in 1967 following Palestinian refugees in Jordan after the June “Six Day War’ which led to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank. It is highly relevant to contemporary Palestine recalling as it does the 50th anniversary of that war and its consequences for Palestinians. A moment in the conflicted history of the Middle East is evoked with telling personal detail in the lives of 11 year old Tarek and his mother Ghaydaa, both of whom are caught up in the conflict.

Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian, described this film as ‘warm, supple and heart-felt’. Annemarie Jacir, described her film as ‘a portrait of hope’ describing a moment in time ‘when your heart feels exploding and everything is possible’.

It is the winner of the Best Film from the Arab World, Abu Dhabi Film Festival 2012; and winner of NETPAC Award Best Asian Film at Berlin Film Festival 2013.

This film is sponsored by County Durham PSC.
