Protected by a large number of Israeli police, 71 Israeli Jewish settlers, including extremist rabbis yesterday stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque, Assabeel newspaper reported.
Settlers entered the mosque through Al-Mughrabi Gate early yesterday morning. The mainly Haredi Jewish took a tour of the area and performed religious rituals in the courtyard.
Muslim worshippers tried to stand in the way of the settlers but they were met with aggression by Israeli police who accompanied the settlers.
Journalist Mahmoud Abu Ata warned that settlers’ groups and rabbis have called for mass raids of Al-Aqsa Mosque during the upcoming Jewish holidays.
Adding that settlers carry out daily raids of the mosque to carry out their religious rituals.
