In the year since the 2014 Gaza war, little has been done to alter the conditions that precipitated it. The so-called Palestinian government of national consensus, formed in June 2o14 and seated in the West Bank, has been reconstituted without Hamas’s consent.
It wasn’t an injury on the football pitch that ended 30-year-old Abu al-Bayd’s burgeoning sports career. He lost a leg to an Israeli shell fired on the fifth day of Israel’s massive offensive on Gaza in the summer of 2014.
In response to the escalating crisis in Gaza, PSC has published an open letter in The Morning Star, calling for the immediate lifting of the blockade and allowing of imports and exports; for the UK government to abide by their obligations under international law to end the siege; and for the removal by Israel of all obstacles to the exercise of human rights by Palestinians in Gaza, including the right to travel and trade.
