The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced today that it had sent a convoy of 38 trucks of medicines and medical supplies from its central warehouses to the besieged Gaza Strip at a cost of $4 million.

“The convoy includes medicines for the treatment of cancer patients, haemophilia, diabetes, skin diseases, painkillers, antibiotics, dialysis solutions, intravenous solutions and surgical materials, dental instruments and materials,” Health Minister Jawad Awad said in a speech in the northern occupied West Bank city of Nablus.

“The convoy also includes laboratory materials for medical examinations, special dialysis filters and milk for children,” Awad added.

Last week, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) said it was “deeply concerned” about “the severe lack of medicines and medical consumables” in hospitals in the Israeli-occupied Gaza Strip.

The group urged the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Health in Ramallah “to guarantee the free and secure flow of all consignments of medicines and needed medical supplies for the health facilities in the Gaza Strip”.

Gaza is currently suffering from severe living and humanitarian crises as a result of the continued Israeli blockade since 2007.
