Source: Friends of Al Aqsa
To mark 100 years since the British government unilaterally promised the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine, the aim of this year's conference is to highlight and discuss the significance of the events leading up to the Balfour Declaration, 1917. There will be a particular focus on the how zionists lobbied, and why the declaration was passed. It aims to shed light on Britain's role in the loss of Palestine and creation of the state of Israel.
The conference will also focus on contemporary Palestine, and the consequences of the Balfour declaration and how the harsh realities of occupation in West Bank and Gaza relate back to the early 1900's. We will be discussing the ethics behind replacing an indigenous people, and the rights Palestinians are entitled to today legally under the Balfour declaration. A panel on the works of Palestine activism of campus and how we can move forward will conclude the conference.
